Hornets softball ready for 2018 Season to begin
The Wautoma softball team has been practicing for over a week and are eager to show what they have against competition.
Wautoma returns five starters from last year who happen to all be seniors, including Avery Lehr, pitcher/centerfielder, 2nd Team South Central Conference outfielder; Maddie Peterman, catcher/DP; Kaisee Conger, third base, 1st Team South Central Conference infielder; Brianna Jander, leftfielder; and Tori Gonzalez, second base.
In addition, some other players vying for spots include senior Alyssa Borchardt, utility; senior Karley Reetz, pitcher/right-fielder; senior Katy Bray, outfield/DP; junior MacKenzie Koats, first base/catcher; junior MacKenzie Ralls, short stop/utility; junior Emma Chase, catcher, utility; and sophomore Brooke Blader-Lucht, outfielder, pitcher.
The top tier of the SCC Conference looks to be defending champions Adams-Friendship along with Westfield and Wisconsin Dells based on returners. The Wautoma squad hopes to be competitive and right in the thick of things at seasons end. There might be a couple other underclass women in the mix of things, according to Head Coach Tom Butt.
The Hornets season opener will be held at Almond-Bancroft this Thursday, March 22, at 4:30 p.m.
