Body
In December of 2023, Ted De Jardin went in for cortisone injections to help with arthritis in his hips. He was already immunocompromised from Chron’s disease and as a result of the injections, he came down with sepsis. Sepsis occurs when chemicals released in the bloodstream to fight an infection trigger inflammation throughout the body. It is a life-threatening complication typically from an infection. For Ted, the sepsis started in his bloodstream initially and then moved to his shoulder and hip joints. Since the admission to ThedaCare Hospital in Neenah in December, he has gone through six major surgeries on his shoulder and hips to help clean out the sepsis. He was then put on a 24/7 penicillin drip for six weeks. After being home for about three weeks, his incisions started to rip back open. He was then readmitted on Jan. 13th for another week.
As a result of the arthritis and sepsis in his hips, he needs to have two total hip replacements. Surgeons will not perform the surgeries until his body has been cleared of sepsis for at least a year. He’s currently undergoing physical therapy to help with his range of motion with his arm and learning to walk again. He also needs to have a tear in his rotator cuff repaired. There is a chance the surgeons will address this later this year. When Ted was first diagnosed, he was working for Milk Specialties in the dispense department. Due to the ongoing medical issues, his FMLA coverage will be running out and he and his wife Allison will be losing their health insurance on Feb. 29th. The family and friends of Ted De Jardin are holding a fundraiser to try and help offset some of the costs for the medical bills, physical therapy and other related expenses. The benefit will be held on Saturday, March 9th at Oakwood Restaurant in Wild Rose.
The benefit will run from 12 – 4 p.m. They will be selling meal plates with sloppy joe sandwiches and chips for $5. There will be basket raffles, 50/50 raffle and a silent auction with all proceeds to go directly to Ted and his wife.
If you would like to donate to the event, donations can be dropped off at Oakwood Campground N5428 24th Ave, Wild Rose during normal business hours prior to March 8th. Monetary donations can be mailed to Oakwood Campground, c/o Ted De Jardin Benefit. Anyone with questions regarding the event can contact Allison at 920-213-7817 or Michelle at 920-622-4361.
