Body
The January Coloma Village Board meeting provided updates to the community during their regular monthly meeting on Jan. 25.
First item on the agenda was the Fire Department noting that call volume is up from last year at 174 calls to date.
The street department was commended for doing a great snow removal job with the last major storm. Discussions also covered the use of salt, sand or brine and the effects upon the Coloma water supply. Possible new replacements for snow plow blade options were clarified with research still ongoing. The street and sewer departments were also approved for a new computer. This summer will see a few fire hydrants upgraded.
Possible chipping of roads FF and Slater will be reviewed in a future meeting.
Coloma Mobil and The Cabin were both approved for Coloma operator licenses. A request for a street sign change was approved for Charles Way to Wheeler’s Way. The contract for the Waushara County Senior meals location dining agreement was reviewed. It was noted that meals are three days a week with six to eight people attending regularly.
The Coloma 4-H Dynamites had a successful pet clinic with over 70 animals. The new insulation and heat at the park building was much appreciated and made the event more comfortable for both pets and owners. The board will be reviewing ordinances for solar panel installation clarifications in future discussions. Coloma residents will see the installation of new fire numbers with interdepartmental street and fire cooperation sometime this summer as weather and emergency calls permit time to complete.
Jeff Weyenberg, a life time dairy and potato farmer of Coloma also attended the meeting as he is running for a Village Board position. Jeff will be competing with Erik Johnston and James Fousek for two positions in the Feb. 20th primary. Jeff stated he hopes to bring fresh ideas in keeping the Coloma community moving forward with a few adjustments. He also has six years of work experience for the state of Wisconsin. This is his first foray into the political arena.
