Hancock Library proposes remodeling addition

Subhead
The Hancock Library has recently applied to Mead Winter Foundation and Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin grants on a proposed remodeling building addition.   The main purpose for seeking the grants is adding a main floor meeting room and activity space for residents of all ages to provide a wider variety of programs. The total combined residential population using the library is 1,573 people of which 40% of children are living at the poverty level. At the other end of the spectrum 29% of the patrons are over the age of 60. Current project goal is to raise $300,000. Lisa pointed out that being a rural public library the financial resources are limited although funds have been donated to this building project by various individuals and families who would like to see the library building expanded. Because of space limitations the expansion would allow additional programs such as UW Extension classes, 4H group activities, book clubs, cooking classes, and financial/budgeting programs. The space could also be utilized by area organizations for meetings. The newer addition would also include a handicap accessible bathroom.
