Zaeda Crawford awarded VFW scholarship

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 6007 in Plainfield awarded their 47th annual scholarship to Zaeda Crawford. Zaeda is a 2003 graduate of Tri-County Area High School. She plans to attend UW-Stevens Point this fall to major in early childhood education. The $100 cash scholarship is intended to help a veteran’s daughter or granddaughter move forward in their education. Applications become available from the Tri-County High School guidance office in early spring. It is important to make sure any connection to military service is noted on the application. There are some fall scholarships available through Department VFW and Auxiliary and National VFW and Auxiliary. Students in grades 6-8 are eligible for the Patriot’s Pen essay contest with scholarship money given at all levels. The theme for the essay this year is “How Are You Inspired by America?” The Voice of Democracy essay and oral presentation is aimed at grades 9-12. The theme for this contest is “What Are the Greatest Attributes of our Democracy?” The contests are open to public, parochial, and home schooled students. The deadline for both is Monday, Oct. 31, so students interested in turning in an entry should get busy and put some thoughts on paper. The Young American Patriotic Art contest and the Young American 3-Dimensional Patriotic Art Contest are due in the spring. The deadline is March 31, 2024.
