Coloma Village Board hears TREDCO presentation

Bill Wheeler, of the Tri-County Regional Economic Development Corporation ad-dressed the Coloma Village Board about activities related to business developments in the area during their meeting on Nov. 30.

TREDCO, which began 14 years ago when three counties, Waushara, Marquette and Green Lake, consolidate their efforts to create new development in that area. With the creation of this organization, it allowed to lend more seed money out and in larger amounts. Currently, TREDCO has about 35 loans out with a total of $300,000 in the fund at this time.

The organization averages five to seven loans per year, which provides an inexpensive way for new businesses to get their start with loans coming in with a 2 percent rate and a seven-year note. The loan committee consists of two representatives from each county and one at-large member.

“The biggest problem in the area is finding employees, not just in the three counties we cover, but statewide,” said Wheeler. “The biggest drawback to getting employees is housing.”
