Wild Rose volunteers return from St. Lucia

Subhead
Mike and Mary Smaby, of Wild Rose, were part of a Global Volunteers team which recently spent two weeks volunteering in Anse La Raye, St. Lucia. Global Volunteers is an international relief organization that works to alleviate poverty and support local initiatives in developing countries around the world. Mike and Mary were part of an eleven-member team from the US and abroad who worked in the schools in the tiny fishing village of Anse La Raye. (Although maybe it is about the same size as Wild Rose) Mary worked in a third grade classroom in Anse La Raye Primary School, while Mike helped the school caretaker with various projects around the school. In addition to providing local support, the program also works to foster better cultural understanding, friendship, and peace among all. Mike and Mary left the program with many new friends, much learning, and the satisfaction of having made a meaningful contribution in the community they served. It was an incredible experience, and one they hope to repeat at some point in the future. If someone is interested learning more about the Global Volunteers program, their website can be found at globalvolunteers.org. You can also text Mike and/or Mary at 920-482-7404, as they are very happy to share their adventures. This was an experience they highly recommend, and will truly never forget.
