Drowning victim reported in Adams County on Sept. 4

On Sept. 4 at 4:08 p.m., the Adams County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call indicating a swimmer in the Wisconsin River had gone under water and the call ended. A short time later Sauk County Sheriff’s Office received a call also indicating a male subject had gone under the water. Numerous emergency resources were dispatched to the area of the Dells of the Wisconsin River State Natural Area, located in the Adams County, Town of Dell Prairie, just north of Wisconsin Dells.

Emergency responders searched the area for the missing adult male until dark, when the search was suspended. Witnesses reported an adult male had jumped off a cliff entering the Wisconsin River, surfaced and then began to struggle to stay above water before going under water again.

On Sept. 5, the search and recovery efforts resumed. After several hours of searching using several different types of sonar, Remote Operated Vehicles, underwater cameras, and divers the male subject was located in about 10 feet of water.

 

The male subject was identified as Jose R. Borbolla Juarez, age 34 of Chicago Illinois.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the following agencies; Sauk County Sheriff’s Office and Dive Team, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and Dive Team, Wisconsin Dells Police Department, Kilbourn Fire & Rescue, Lake Delton Fire & Rescue, Dells/Delton EMS, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Marathon County Sheriff’s Office, Juneau County Sheriff’s Office, University of Wisconsin Police, and the Adams County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The investigation is still ongoing and no additional information will be released at this time.
