Playing with a bigger purpose

On Oct. 12, WHS volleyball celebrated sen-ior night, recognizing Bailey Blader-Lucht, Bri-anna Handel, and Jalyn Piechowski, for their six years of dedication to the Lady Hornets program.

Being that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the young ladies wanted to use their special night as an opportunity to raise money for Peaceful Purpose Inc. which is a non-profit organization that runs out of Appleton, with a mission to provide those battling illness styling, wigs, hats, head coverings, and head shavings for little to no cost. The whole volleyball program came together to make baked goods to be sold in the lobby and players sold 50/50 raffle tickets during the JV and Varsity matches.

At the end of the night the girls raised $600. Coach Phillips took the three seniors to hand deliver the donation the following Thursday before the Regional Semi-Final Match, so that the seniors could see the impact their selfless actions were going to have on others. They met with one of the team workers of Peaceful Purpose Inc. at Naava Salon and Spa LLC. to get a tour and a brief history of the organization.

The organization was partaking in their annual Lift Our Purpose Campaign to raise funds to continue their mission. In a Facebook post on Nov. 3, Peaceful Purpose Inc. revealed that the campaign raised $26,293.25. The post stated, “Although we didn’t quite reach our goal, [$35,000] Lift Our Purpose was a HUGE success!”

It’s great to see a local team have a small part in a bigger purpose.
