Village of Redgranite hires three new officers

Subhead

During a June 15 meeting the Redgranite Village Board approved the hiring of three new officers for the Redgranite Police Department. Carter Lawson will take the role as a Full-Time Police Officer, Ali Sowieja as the Part-Time Police Officer, and Brieanne Chappa as the Part-Time Police Auxiliary/CSO position. Police Chief Kyle Tarr swore in the three new officers.

Discussion and input was given regarding various road projects in the Village. The board approved the chip sealing from Bonnell Ave. from Highway 21 to Foster Rd. project. The crack filling Bonnell Ave. to the West Village limits along with the single chip sealing Bonnell Ave. from Foster Road to the West Village limits were tabled until the board can meet for an all-committee meeting to discuss the projects and possibly plan work that needs to be done on Cottonville Ave.

The board will also be reviewing the sewer/water budget during their all-committee meeting to work into an agreement with Martenson & Eisele to perform a sewer use charge system and sewer utility ordinance review.

The AMVETS expressed their appreciation to the board for the use of Veteran’s Park as well as the use of the Village owned billboard. More visitors showed up for the Memorial Day Chicken BBQ than they had available, reported village board member Ellen Caswell.

The board approved the updated Ordinance in Section 9-2-5, Fireworks. This led to the denial of a request from Condon Oil to sell fireworks until mid-August so that they can review which products they are able to stock. Another permit request to shoot off fireworks with the Village from Andrea Wilcox was denied with board member Sandy Lyles abstaining from the vote. The request was denied based on the recommendation from the Redgranite Fire Chief due to current drought conditions.

The board went on to approve:

•The promotion of Steve Kasubaski to Sergeant.

•The hiring of Mark Hass as the Water and Sewer Utility Operator.
