Francine Marshall recognized by DNR for work on Little Hills Lake

Subhead

For 25 years Francine Marshall has been monitoring the lake levels on Little Hills Lake in Wautoma.  At the end of August of this year Francine was recognized for her dedication to monitoring Little Hills Lake by the Citizen Lake Monitory Network from the Department of National Resources at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point.

The letter accompanying the award states, “The data you have been collecting on Little Hills Lake are used by a variety of people including lake managers, university researchers, WI DNR staff, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  This data is shared nationally and internationally through the North American Secchi Dip-In program, which tracks water clarity trends in lakes across North America.”

The volunteer water clarity data is used to calibrate instruments on the Landsat8satellite, which can estimate water clarity on unmonitored lakes from space.
