Flag burning ceremony held for worn out flags

Wautoma American Legion Post 317, Wild Rose American Legion Post 370, and the Wautoma-Wild Rose-Redgranite Cub Scout Pack 3650 took part in an American flag burning ceremony at Kelley Sand & Gravel’s gravel pit on Sept. 10. The ceremony was for worn out flags that have done their duty and those that were fraying and torn needed to be destroyed in a respectable manner.

Currently there are receptacles for worn out flags at the WWII Memorial building and Ace Hardware in Wautoma; however, the Wautoma-Wild Rose-Redgranite Cub Scout Pack 3650 plans to build three more and place them in additional locations in the area.  The flag burning ceremony takes place once a year.
