WR School Board discusses tentative budget

The Wild Rose School Board went through a number of personnel appointments when it met July 19. The all-important middle/high school principal position was filled by Jim Banks who’s “Glad for the chance.” Mikayla (Senglaub) Mix-dorf is back at the 5-12 grade instrumental music teacher, having been a student teacher in Wild Rose then as the band director for a year. Steve Yeska was approved as the girls’ junior varsity basketball coach, and relinquishing his duties as middle school girls’/boys’ basketball coach. Mark VandeCastle and Drew Dix were approved as assistant football coaches. Board policy revisions to Section 6 regarding support personnel services were approved. A tentative budget for the 2018-19 school year to be presented at the annual meeting in August was approved. The school district is looking at a tentative budget of $9,288,697 as a net total, a 10.07 percent decrease. The total levy could be $5,574,289, a $47,472 or .859 percent increase. The mil rate would be 7.86, a .06 or .769 percent increase. Student fees for the 2018-19 school year were approved, and the date of Saturday, May 25 was approved for the 2019 high school graduation ceremony at 1 pm after reviewing the survey results. The Board approved the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program (the after school program) site mentoring report. The next regular board meeting will take place at 7:30 pm on Thursday, Aug. 9. The annual meeting and budget hearing will be at 7 pm on Monday, Aug. 13 in the high school auditorium. The second board meeting in August will be held at 7:30 pm on Thursday the 23rd.
