Berlin Hospital serves women of all ages
ThedaCare Medical Center-Berlin is a full-ser-vice women’s care center, providing all the services women of all ages need. In addition to the eight family practice physicians who care for women in the area, two ThedaCare-affiliated obstetric/gynecological (OB/GYN) specialists see patients at the ThedaCare Medical Center-Berlin regularly. Eric Eberts, MD, and Valary Gass, MD, from Women’s Care of Wisconsin, offer a full-range of OB/GYN services, including same-day surgery procedures. “We have all the parts of the equation needed to provide comprehensive health care for women of all ages and stages of life,” said Pam Mork, director of nursing at the hospital. Today, many birthing options are available in addition to traditional childbirth practices, and ThedaCare Medical Center-Berlin works with each patient to provide the experience they desire. Many women choose a nurse/midwife for their prenatal care and childbirth, and Shelly Weisheipl, RN, CNM offers that care in Berlin. However, she’s quick to point out that midwives also can provide the full spectrum of health care for women. “When people hear the term ‘midwife’ they often picture a woman coaching a mother through labor and delivery. In fact, midwives (who also can be male) receive in-depth training in primary care, in addition to gynecology and obstetrics,” said Weisheipl. Midwives can offer the full range of women’s health services, including prenatal care, annual physicals, gynecological exams, sexually transmitted disease education and testing, and management of chronic diseases. Postmenopausal women are cared for with general health maintenance, bone density testing, incontinence evaluation, treatment for abnormal bleeding, and hormone replacement therapy.
