That Ragged Old Flag recited at Coloma Church
Vietnam Era Veteran William Schmudlach, Hancock, recited from memory the poem “That Ragged Old Flag” (written by Johnny Cash) during the May 27 worship service at the Coloma Calvary United Methodist Church. During this part of the narration, William is telling “the visitor at the courthouse square” how the flag is to never touch the ground but should be held up and folded each night until it is displayed the next morning. Holding a torn and faded flag is his grandson, Alex Schmudlach, 9. The flag was owned by William’s father, Forrest Schmudlach, who served during World War II.
