Time is now to get physically active

May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, a good time to assess whether you are physically active. Physical inactivity is a risk factor for premature death. It ranks No. 4 in the list of risk factors for premature death behind smoking, high blood pressure and obesity. You don’t need to have “buns of steel” or “six-pack abs” to be considered active. Any regular physical activity has positive health benefits. Many people struggle with their weight and physical activity can help control weight. But, even though I have not seen studies to confirm this, I believe people who are overweight and physically active are healthier than people who are “couch potatoes” regardless of their weight.
