Wolman-Minskey American Legion Auxiliary #317 and American Legion Post #317 Poppy Distribution

Subhead

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 317 and American Legion Post 317 will be distributing poppies for donations on Friday, May 27 and Saturday, May 28.

Friday, May 27 is designated as National Poppy Day.

Friday Distribution in Wautoma will take place at Ace Hardware, Pick ’n Save and StoneRidge from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., and Saturday Distribution will take place at Ace Hardware and Pick ‘n Save from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

The poppies distributed are handmade by veterans participating in the Rehabilitation Program in the Wisconsin Poppy Shop at Zublacki VA Medical Center.  Veteran’s making the red crepe paper poppy are paid a small stipend for each poppy.  Only poppies made by veterans may use the “Handmade by Veterans” white label.  Our Unit purchases the poppies for distribution.

Twenty percent of the donations are sent to the Department of Wisconsin.  The funds are used for the Department Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation and Children & Youth Programs.

Eighty percent of the donations remain with the local Post and the Unit.  These donations support veteran’s and their families through organized programs, as well as provide meals at holiday time.   The Veterans Home at King and Camp American Legion are recipients of donations as needed, along with Children & Youth and Rehabilitation programs, scholarships, etc.

Your donation is welcomed and appreciated recognizing the service of those who have fought for the freedoms we have today.
