United States Attorney speaks at Wautoma Rotary Meeting

Scott Blader, United States Attorney, Department of Justice for the Western District of Wisconsin spoke to Rotary members about what the Department of Justices (DOJ) is responsible for.

Blader’s office defends and advances the interests of the United States. They have limited jurisdiction focusing on organizations and enterprises that cross state lines. Focusing on National Security issues relating to foreign actors and corporations. Gun crimes, Immigration, Drug Cartels, Civil Rights, Environmental Crimes, Healthcare Fraud, Bankruptcy Fraud and Political Corruption.

Blader, a Wautoma native, started with the DOJ in November 2017, after his nomination by president Trump and confirmed by the US Senate. His office is located in Madison and has 48 full time people.

During his first two years with The Western District there has been a 63% increase in cases filed, with violent gun crime and drug prosecutions up. He tried the first criminal case in the US against Chinese Corporation in the US. He has helped reduce the Wisconsin overdose rate with Opioid prescriptions.

The Wautoma Rotary meets every Wednesday at noon at Christianos in the second floor meeting room.  Rotary welcomes visitors and prospective new members to each meeting. Masks are required at this time.
