Family Health La Clinica will expand healthcare services in Stevens Point under the Healthcare Infrastructure Capital Investment Program

Family Health La Clinica community health center will be expanding their healthcare services to Stevens Point with the support of 6.95M in funding under the Healthcare Infrastructure Capital Grant. Family Health La Clinica received notice from Governor Tony Evers’ office that their grant application has been approved to advance their mission and expand their dental-only site in Stevens Point to a full-service health care site.

The grant will offset the capital expenses associated with constructing or renovating a building to house medical, behavioral health, expanded dental, optometry, pharmacy, and rehabilitative services to everyone. Family Health La Clinica is eager to better serve the Stevens Point community as a needs assessment reveals there are significant unmet needs in the region. The data showed that many people in the area are not able to access essential health services. This is especially true for those who have no insurance or have other socio-economic barriers.

Family Health La Clinica community health center started offering free health services to migrant farmworkers in rural Central Wisconsin in the 1960s. The core of their mission has always been simple: connect people to quality healthcare. Family Health La Clinica has grown significantly in its services offered and geographic reach, including the mobile health clinic that provides services to farmworkers at agricultural housing and worksites. The health center offers comprehensive health services to everyone…connecting communities to quality medical, dental, and behavioral health services.

Laura Waldvogel, Family Health La Clinica’s Chief Executive Officer, says, “The healthcare system is complicated and can be stressful to navigate especially for those without adequate insurance coverage or financial means. We have seen an increase in the number of people who are unable to get in for much-needed care, especially those who do not have insurance. It is also difficult for many in the Stevens Point area to access dental and behavioral health services. This expansion will help alleviate those barriers. Our message is simple: ‘everyone is welcome here.’”

Community advocates built Family Health La Clinica, and they want to carry on that tradition by ensuring the health center is responsive to the needs in every community they serve.
