Family Health La Clinica celebrates National Rural Health Month

Subhead

November is Rural Health Month with Thursday, Nov. 19 designated as National Rural Health Day this year. Each November, and specifically the third Thursday of November, Wisconsin celebrates and recognizes the #PowerofRural by showcasing rural America and bringing awareness to rural health challenges. This month, Family Health La Clinica (FHLC) joins thousands of other rural health clinics in observing and honoring rural health nationwide.

About 57 million people – nearly one in five Americans – live in rural and frontier communities throughout the United States. “These small towns, farming communities, and frontier areas are wonderful places to live and work; they are places where neighbors know each other and work together,” says Teryl Eisinger, CEO for the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health. “The hospitals and providers serving these rural communities not only provide quality patient care, but they also help keep good jobs in rural America.” While its healthcare workforce is its strength in access to care, rural America still experiences healthcare provider shortages making rural healthcare access a continued challenge.

Family Health La Clinica is a community health center that provides critical access and quality care to rural Central Wisconsin. FHLC offers primary medical, dental, behavioral health, and substance recovery services to patients of all ages and income levels, both insured and uninsured. FHLC accepts private insurance, in addition to Medicaid (BadgerCare) and Medicare, and offers a sliding fee scale discount program for those who qualify. For anyone in need of free assistance with available benefit programs, FHLC serves everyone within Adams, Columbia, Dodge, Green Lake, Juneau, Marquette, Portage, Sauk, Waupaca, and Waushara counties. As Wisconsin’s only specially designated Migrant Health Center, FHLC also serves migrant and seasonal farmworkers statewide via its Mobile Health Center program.
