The first online Wautoma Wrap Workshop was held in a Zoom room on Saturday, June 27. Angela Johnson, WRAP (Wisconsin Regional Art Program) director, introduced the program by explaining the need for social distancing due to Covid-19.

Helen Klebesadel created a PowerPoint demo that was like working with her in person. In a colorful presentation titled Inspired by Chance: Two Bouquets, she taught participants to see shapes and textures in a different way and turn them into vases, leaves and blossoms. She worked wet on wet with watercolor in stages and created two beautiful “bouquets”.

Helen followed the demo with a virtual critique and awards presentation that described her experience with the art and the reasons for her choices. She singled out works of note, and awarded honorable mentions and state awards in a thoughtful, heartfelt, and encouraging voiceover. The former Director of WRAP and Associate Professor of Art and Department Chair of Lawrence University is now a full- time artist and her work and classes can be found online.

The entire 2020 show can be seen on the WRAP website at https://continuingstudies.wisc.edu/wisconsin-regional-art-program/wrap-schedule/ on the local exhibits and workshops page for Wautoma.

State Winners from Wautoma are eligible for State Day prizes and will be exhibited with other winners from around the state in an online exhibit in August. This year’s State Day Conference will be fully online with three-days of art and inspiration. Demos and talks will be recorded live, with links, so you can get the content at any time. To find out more, go to “conference” at the website above.

The Wautoma WRAP show was sponsored by the rural Rembrandt Art Club. Special appreciation to Gary LeBouton who photographed the work and got the show ready for posting.
