Discover what’s new at the Coloma Public Library

There is a lot to discover at the Coloma Public Library with recent additions to the local library. Preston de Bolt, Director of the Coloma Public Library, is excited to introduce new resources and activities to the community.

One of these resources is the new Cricut machine that is available for patrons of the library. Cricut machines have risen in popularity for crafters. The machine cuts several different materials such as, paper, vinyl, and cardstock. One example of a project created with the Cricut is the lettering for the library displayed in the window. Visitors are able to use the new machine much like they are able to use the copier, just paying for the materials for this useful resource.

Activities for younger and older kids are also available at the library. There are many STEM projects for families to work on together. One of the STEM kits that are available is a coding project where kids are able to program the Bee Bot, a robot that is able to be programmed. Informative activities fill the display case at the library for families looking for a fun project.

The most exciting addition to the Coloma Library is the new flight simulator. The equipment for the new program was all donated by community members. The software for the simulator was donated by the Civil Air Patrol to test out the program. The computer was funded by a tech grant. Marsha Johnson generously provided the table and Thomas Houldsworth supplied the monitors.

Coloma also has a lot to look forward to in the near future at the local library as well. A financial literacy program is in the works, along with the Summer Reading Program that is fast approaching in April. Preston also hopes to be able to get a Driver’s Ed program that works much like the flight simulator so young locals will be able to start getting experience driving.

“The Coloma Public Library will be providing the best community support we can,” stated Preston de Bolt who has a passion for his new role of Library Director. He hopes to modernize the library in order to provide a strong community resource.

The Coloma Public Library is open regular hours: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.; and closed Tuesday and Sunday.
