Waushara County Department of Aging helps fight childhood hunger

Waushara County De-partment of Aging employees recently joined forces to fight childhood hunger as Packer Backers to support the Vision 2020 Backpack Nutrition Program. Individual donations were collected by employees and presented to Vision 2020 Backpack Committee members.

The Packer Backer Campaign is a local fundraising effort to support the Vision 2020 Backpack Nutrition Program, with 100 percent of funds received used to purchase food and program supplies. The program is funded entirely by grant awards and donations received from individuals, churches, community organizations and businesses.

“This year we are serving more students than ever before,” said Vision 2020 Backpack Nutrition Chair Jan Novak. “We are so grateful to groups such as the Department of Aging employees and others who support our efforts and allow us to respond to the growing number of students who benefit from our program.”

The Vision 2020 Backpack Nutrition Program is currently providing weekend meals for 152 students. The students qualify for the program if they are eligible for the Federal free/reduced lunch program and attend one of three participating elementary schools located in Waushara County.
