Summer Rocks Blood Drive coming to Wautoma July 20
The annual “Summer Rocks” Blood Drive is being planned for July 20 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the World War II Memorial Building, Wautoma. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Organizers are expecting over 60 people to give blood at the mid-summer blood drive. Blood donations often drop near the Fourth of July, and this blood drive will help replenish the area blood supply after the holiday week, stated Liz Wockenfus of the Community Blood Center.
“There is a constant need for blood. Hospitals receive regular shipments of blood from the Community Blood Center, and some hospitals use hundreds of units of blood each month. The need for blood doesn’t take a summer break, and we’re encouraging people to help out by donating at the blood drive on Monday,” added Wockenfus.
High school blood donors trying to donate eight times before graduation to receive a Gallon Grad award are also encouraged to participate in the community blood drive.
Donation appointments are highly recommended, and may be made by calling Rick at 920-787-4696 or visiting www.communityblood.org. Walk-in donors are welcome, but scheduling an appointment keeps the total time required for a donation to less than an hour.
Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental permission), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, and bring a photo ID. Donors are encouraged to eat a regular meal and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating.
