Six departments respond to log cabin fire on April 2

The Coloma Fire Department requested assistance from the Hancock, Plainfield, Wautoma, Newton and Springfield Fire Departments when responding to an early morning fire on Cumberland Road in the Town of Richford on April 2.

According to Coloma Fire Chief Nate Sigourney, a gentleman living at the residence woke up to smoke and fire and was able to leave the house uninjured. The Coloma Fire Department received the page at about 1:11 a.m.

With a log cabin providing a lot of fuel to a fire, the Coloma Fire Department requested assistance from the surrounding fire departments due to the amount of water that was needed.

Sigourney stated that the departments were able to leave the scene at about 5:30 a.m. The log cabin was destroyed in the blaze, and the Coloma Fire Department is continuing to investigate the cause.
