Prairie Enthusiasts hold prescribed burn training

Prairie Enthusiast members from Marquette, Waushara and Waupaca Counties met on Nov. 11 and Nov. 14 to train for the coming prescribed burn season.

The two day-course, held at Fred and Karen Wollenburg’s residence and prairie near Dalton on Nov. 11 and 12. Due to the weather being too humid on Nov. 12, many members of the group reassembled on Nov. 14 to burn the prepared 15 acres of prairie.

The prescribed burn train-ing was taught by Private Lands Conservation LLC Ecologist Jeb Barzen, who has led prescribed burn training for over 30 years, logging in 580 prescribed fires. Barzen was assisted by Rob Nurre, who has been co-instructing the class for at least three years.
