Mitch Van Epps recognized at Luther Football Awards Banquet

Mitch Van Epps, a 2014 graduate of Wild Rose High School, was presented the Defensive Player of the Year Award during the Luther College Football Team’s annual post season awards banquet on Feb. 10.

Van Epps had his best season in a Norse uniform, leading the defensive lineman with a single season career high 44 tackles that included 11 for loss. His tackle total was the fifth highest on the team. Van Epps was also credited with four sacks and three pass break-ups. For his efforts he was named first-team all-Iowa Conference. He completed his career with 97 tackles that include 13.5 for loss. 

Van Epps helped lead Luther to a record of 6-4 and its first winning season since 2005.

The Norse finished alone in third place in the IIAC standings (5-3), their highest finish since 2004. The Norse defensive unit finished second in the Iowa Conference in total defense, allowing 342.6 yards per game.

Van Epps is the son of James and Joni Rankin of Wild Rose.
