K-9 Mac and Sgt. Brian Wenzel honored at state convention
Waushara County K-9 Deputy Mac and his partner Sergeant Brian Wenzel (center) received the award for Meritorious K-9 Apprehension while attending the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Canine Handler Association (WLECHA) awards banquet in Green Bay on Oct. 6. The Meritorious K-9 Apprehension award is given to a K-9 unit where suspects are taken into custody as a direct result of a canine team’s involvement. The factors considered include difficulty to find (where suspect was hiding), weather conditions, terrain, and types of crimes committed, and is not factored on weather the suspect as bit by the canine. The awards banquet was held in conjunction with the WLECHA training workshop and convention. Over 100 teams attended this workshop, including Waushara County’s second K-9 unit, Deputy Argo and Deputy Wally Zuehlke (far right), and Waushara County Lt. Stacy Vaccaro (left) who helps train the local K-9 teams and serves as an instructor throughout the state.
