A recent Tri-County School Board gathered for a concerned citizen meeting on Dec. 15. The meeting was organized by Virginia McGregor, a tax payer within the district who attends school board meetings and has guardianship of a student. School board member Sherry Caves was present for questions, however, there was no representation from the Tri-County Administrators office.
Sherry Caves had recently purchased an ad in the Waushara Argus/Resorter listing issues between herself and the Tri-County School Board that she feels needs to be worked on such as: continuing challenges to the student body including mental health, safety, enrollment, absenteeism, quality education and balancing the school budget. Her questions led to a meeting between Ms. Caves and Tri-County District’s Legal counsel. Sherry commented on the current board member interaction saying, “Politics pits individuals against one another. In good government, individuals put aside selfish ambitions and work together for the collective good and wellbeing of those the electorate has entrusted us to serve.”
Meeting organizer and presenter Virginia McGregor had this to say on the purpose of the public discussion, “Once I saw the information placed in the Argus by Tri-County School Board member Sherry Caves, I became concerned as to what she may have done to violate any ethics policy or rule in place in the school district. So far I have not been able to determine what the issues are that have prompted her conflict with the board. My effort will continue as I would like to determine what is happening “behind closed doors” that would create what seems like a real division on the board. All of the board members are duly elected into their positions and all should be acting as a group for the benefit of our students and take action to address concerns of parents, taxpayers, teachers, and all who are involved in the day to day operation of the schools in the district. I had always thought that this was the function of the school board; not personal attacks among members of the board. I encourage citizens to participate and become aware of how our schools are doing.”
