At the regular monthly meeting of the Wautoma Common Council, an ordinance was passed regarding property annexation of the Waushara County Highway Department Property located in the Town of Dakota. It was noted that the county would maintain the road back to the buildings.
The council also approved licenses for Waushara Area Chamber activities including the Wautoma Wine Walk, June 22; Freedom Fest, July 6; Music in the Park, June 13 and 27, July 11 and 25, and Aug. 8 and 22; and Wautoma Beer Walk on Oct. 26.
Administrator Tommy Bohler reported he had attended the Community Conversation meeting regarding Riverview School and said the school district is looking at a location adjacent to Parkside rather than the Lake Ridge subdivision. Bohler said he believes the Lake Ridge property checks all the boxes and would be a catalyst that spurs development. He said, “We need a school, and it is great it is staying in the city. If schools continue to crumble it will kill our community and property values will crumble and encouraged the council to support the school no matter where it goes.”
Mayor John Nixon said that the dumpsters for the city residents will arrive at City Hall on Thursday, May 23 and will be available through July 4th. The entrance is available from State Rd. 152. A camera has been installed to make sure that only Wautoma City residents are using the dumpsters.
Mayor Nixon also reported the Wautoma City Wide Rummage Sale will be held June 21, 22 & 23.
Cleanup on city properties continues although Police Chief Paul Mott reported that there are areas of cleanup the police cannot enforce and that includes unsightly condition of the exterior of buildings including siding, windows, roofs, etc. Following discussion the council voted to approve Eric Vezina as City Code Representative. A Joint Municipal Court was established and approved including the Village of Wild Rose, Village of Hancock, and City of Wautoma. Tommy Bohler, Administrator, was on the ballot for the Wautoma Area Municipal Court Judge because no one came forth to run for the position and won the election in April. Bohler reported he declined the position, and the council approved Tom Kubasta to serve as Area Municipal Court Judge beginning in June.
The next regular meeting of the Wautoma Common Council will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 10.
