All are invited to participate in this year’s beautiful Welsh Christmas Hymn Sing at the First Congregational Church in Redgranite, at 877 Bennell Avenue, on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 12 at 2:30 p.m.
The Hymn Sing will be sung in rich 4 part harmony. It will be directed by Ann Lemmenes with Rev. Tom White at the organ and Lori Page will be the vocal soloist. Refreshments will immediately follow the Hymn Sing.
This year’s Christmas Hymn Sing recognizes Ed and Barbara for their long-standing service to the WGGAW Board. Ed and Barbara established the Welsh hymn sing tradition at their UCC church in Redgranite. Each were descendants of Welsh immigrants of the Wild Rose and Sparta areas. Both are remembered for their faith and kindness. As part of the service, their children will offer a special remembrance.
The organist, Rev. Tom White, has been active in Welsh circles for over 60 years. He is a retired United Methodist pastor after 42 years in the ministry. He played the Wild Rose reed organ for all of the Welsh hymns sings held there over the years and has played the Peniel reed organ (near Oshkosh) for 56 years as well as director and organist for other Welsh events. He is a past president of Welsh Gymanfa Ganu Association of Wisconsin and continues to be on the board. He and his wife Jean attended about 40 National Welsh hymn sings over the years.
The director will be Ann E. Lemmenes. During college, she spent a year in Cardiff, Wales, Great Britain studying at The Welsh College of Music and Drama. She is now a retired music teacher from the Waupun Schools and a retired church organist and choir director from Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waupun. Ann directed the mass choir at Choirs Who Care for many years. Currently a member of the Beaver Dam Area Orchestra for the past 18 years, Ann has played the bass clarinet and clarinet. Keeping music in her life, she now has season tickets for Madison Overture Center’s Broadway shows, Milwaukee Repertory Theater and the Milwaukee Symphony. Other interests are gardening, biking, seeing the sunrise in the Horicon Marsh, playing her Celtic harp, spending time with her two teenage grandkids, helping out with Solo and Ensemble and traveling with her next trip being to Greece.
This event is sponsored by the Welsh Gymanfa Ganu Association of Wisconsin, Inc. The Church is handicapped accessible.
