‘Soldier’s In Arms, Berlin Enlists’ theme for Ghost Walk on Oct. 14

The theme for this year’s Ghost Walk at Oakwood Cemetery, Berlin and sponsored by the Berlin Area Historical Society is ‘Soldier’s In Arms, Berlin Enlists’ recognizing the 100th anniversary of WWI. This is the 15th year the club has been holding this event which begins at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14.

Guides take tourgoers on a planned route through the cemetery where they will hear the stories of those who served and didn’t come back, those who did come home, and those whose efforts helped ease the burden on the home front. Along the route one might meet up with one or more of the people being talked about and they will relate their own story.

The tours start at Griffith Memorial Chapel where Berlin Historical Society is planning a number of exhibits from their collection. An authentic WWI uniform and gear will be on display along with a photo album of pictures taken by a local soldier. Also available will be a number of ‘first-person’ letters, written by local soldiers and printed in the paper at that time. They will be displayed around the chapel.
