Westfield’s Mikayla Flyte advances to WIAA State Finals

Heading into the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Sectionals, Westfield Area High School junior Mikayla Flyte was looking to top off her impressive season with a ticket to the Division 3 WIAA Girls Cross Country State Finals.

With Westfield hosting the Division 3 Sectional Race on Oct. 21, Flyte’s coaches knew she would have a good chance to advance to the state finals. With the top five boys and girls individual runners advancing, Flyte crossed the finish line in 5th place with a time of 21:41.71, edging out Gillet’s Lauren Herzog by just over 10 seconds.

Flyte will compete at the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids this Saturday, Oct. 28, at 12:40 p.m.

“What an incredible accomplishment, Mikayla. You trained in the offseason and in season, and it really paid off,” said Coach Katie Showden. “You are a true athlete and a great example for our Junior High team.”
