The Wautoma/Wild Rose Warriors posed for a photograph having won first place at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 2 Regional on Saturday, Feb. 11, at Omro High School. The team advanced to the team sectional held in Freedom on Tuesday, Feb. 14, and eight wrestlers will compete in the individual sectionals in Seymour on Saturday, Feb. 18.

Warriors win WIAA Division 2 Regional in Omro

Eight wrestlers advance to individual sectionals

With eight Wautoma/Wild Rose wrestlers coming taking first or second place victories in their weight classes, the Warriors were able to walk away with the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 2 Regional title on Saturday, Feb. 11. This is only the second time in school history the wrestling team has won a regional championship – the first having been in 1995.

The Warriors (WWR) won the regional at Omro High School with 244 points, which was 67.5 points more than second place Little Chute (LICH) with 176.5. Following the Warriors and Little Chute were: Berlin (BERL), 166; Winneconne (WINN), 120; Fox Valley Lutheran (FVL), 103; Omro (OMRO), 98; and Xaiver (XAVI), 51.

Winning their weight divisions for Wautoma/Wild Rose were: Abram Lezama, 113 lbs.; Keegan Taivalmaa, 126 lbs.; Tanner Deist, 132 lbs.; Paul Hernandez, 145 lbs.; Andrew Henschel, 170 lbs.; and Lucas Hackney, 195 lbs. Also advancing to the individual sectional meet with a second place finish were Dylan Hughes at 106 lbs. and Jacob Gaboury-Gorges at 138 lbs.

The Warriors will compete as a team at the sectional meet in Freedom on Tuesday, Feb. 14, and the eight individual wrestlers will compete in Seymour on Saturday, Feb. 18.
