Penguins win back-to-back WIAA Regional Championship

The No. 1 ranked Tri-County girls basketball team won their second straight Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 5 Regional Championship with a 63-44 victory over the No. 4 ranked Bowler Panthers at home on Feb. 24.

With both teams claiming their respective conference championships the week earlier with stellar conference records, Bowler, 11-1 and Tri-County, 12-0, the Penguins and Panthers were ready for battle.

As the Panthers worked hard to keep Tri-County’s leading scorer, senior Amber Baehman, at bay, allowing her to score only 5 points in the first half; six other players rallied to add an additional 30 points to the board, including: Alexis Rodriguez, Alyssa Buechner, Andreá Boyd, Brooke Hopkins, Haley Kramer and Kenzy Reilley.

The second half proved to be a little tougher for the Penguins as they outscored the Panthers 28-23, including 3-pointers from Baehman, Boyd, and Hopkins.

Scoring for the Penguins in the game were: Andreá Boyd, 14; Brooke Hopkins, 14; Alexis Rodriguez, 13; Amber Baehman, 8; Haley Kramer, 7; Kenzy Reilley, 4; and Alyssa Buechner, 3.
