Penguins cruise to first round victory, 92-17

The Central Wisconsin Conference-South champions and No. 1 ranked Tri-County Penguins hosted the 16th ranked Pittsville Panthers for the first round of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association girls basketball regional playoffs on Feb. 20 despite having had the day off from school due to icy road conditions.

Seniors Brooke Hopkins, Amber Baehman, Alexis Rodriguez and Andreá Boyd powered the Penguins through the first half outscoring the Panthers 44-10. Baehman tallied 19 points in the first half, followed by Hopkins, 14 points; Boyd, 7 points; and Rodriguez, 6 points.

With just over 3 minutes left to play in the first half junior Alyssa Buechner added 2 points, followed by another basket by Rodriguez to extend the Penguins’ lead to 48-10. Tri-County sophomore Jeany Bloede ended the half scoring field goal with roughly 7 seconds left in the half, 50-15.
