Seniors to travel to Prairie du Chien Sept. 13 & 14
The Waushara-Wautoma Senior Center is sponsoring an overnight trip to the Prairie du Chien area on Sept. 13 and 14. Prairie du Chien is the second-oldest city in Wisconsin, and is located where the Wisconsin River joins with the Mississippi River.
Those who attend will enjoy a guided tour of State Historic Site Villa Louis, with time to explore on our own. The Dousman family first developed this Prairie du Chien landmark in the 1840’s. Their wealth was acquired from fur-trade, lumber and other ventures.
The tour will also provide an opportunity to view the Mississippi River from one of the highest bluff overlooks on the river, in Iowa’s Pikes Peak State Park by McGregor, IA; a tour of the Great River Road Winery; and a visit to the Casino Queen in Marquette, IA, for an ample buffet dinner, plus a some free play in the casino.
