Plainfield Little League looks for Veterans Park improvements

The Plainfield Village Board members heard a presentation from the new administrator of the youth baseball program during their Jan. 3 regular meeting at the Plainfield Municipal Building.

Plainfield Little League Program Administrator Nat-alie Schoenstene asked the village board members to consider improvements within Veteran’s Park for the program.

According to Schoenstene, the three baseball/softball diamonds need to be redone. The diamonds are in bad shape and in need of new dirt and landscaping.

Schoenstene said she contacted HD Company, who has done work in surrounding communities, and received a quote for about $21,300 to complete all three diamonds with a baseball mix. She also plans to speak to the local Lion’s Club and meet with the parks committee regarding the diamonds.

Schoenstene also asked if the shed used to house the league equipment be renovated. Cummings Construction has offered to donate their time to build a new building or renovate the existing one with the little league program paying for the cost of materials.

The board also heard reports from several committee members during the meeting.

Jeff Reabe reported the police department and fire department came in under budget for 2016, and Jerry Lauer had been asked about establishing ATV/UTV trails within the village.
