WR Presbyterian Church to host Gymanfa Ganu Sept. 20
Wild Rose Presbyterian Church will host Gymanfa Ganu, a Welsh/English hymn sing, at 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 20 and will feature the Estey Reed Organ. Following the hymn sing, the church will host Te Bach, or a little tea.
In an article written by Lois Walters in 1969, she stated the Estey Reed Organ from Brattleboro, VT, located in the church sanctuary of Wild Rose Presbyterian Church came from Caersalem Church, formerly located two miles north of the village, when the two churches united in 1925.
In the 1890s many in the Caersalem congregation still felt that a musical instrument in a church was too worldly and modern, but by 1900 the majority approved the purchase of this organ and it was acquired in 1901.
The first regular organist for Caersalem was Mary Edna Humphrey (Mrs. D.E. Davies). The organ was used in the present sanctuary until a piano was acquired, after which its use was continued at special services. Rev. T.E. White has played the organ at all the Gymanfa Ganu hymn sings held at the church.
