First Congregational UCC parishioners help fight childhood hunger

The First Congregational United Church of Christ in Redgranite identified the Vision 2020 Backpack Nutrition Program as a recipient of their “Change for Causes” campaign, an outreach activity of the congregation in which members collect loose change and select worthwhile programs as beneficiaries each quarter.

The Vision 2020 Backpack Nutrition Program provides weekend meals for students who qualify for the Federal free/reduced lunch program and attend one of three participating elementary schools located in Waushara County.

Five to six non-perishable food items and coupons for fresh food travel home in student’s backpacks each week.  The program is currently serving 151 students and estimates it will distribute more than 27,000 items of food to students during the current school year.

“We are so grateful that members of the First Congregational United Church of Christ selected our program to receive their ‘Change for Causes’ collection and join our efforts to address food insecurity in Waushara County,” said Vision 2020 Backpack Nutrition Program Chair Jan Novak.
