Wautoma welding competes at NTC Regional

Wautoma Welding Program SkillsUSA members Cole Juday and Devin Borchardt competed at the Northcentral Technical College (NTC) Regional Welding Competition against several Central Wisconsin high schools in Wausau on Feb. 6.

Juday took home 1st place, which guaranteed him spot in the state finals this April. Borchardt took 3rd place, and will have to wait to see if he will compete at state.

With the experience of the fall Fox Valley Technical College Welding Challenge under his belt, Juday worked to make the improvements necessary to place in the top of the regional competition. Noticed by Jessie Lloyd, FVTC welding instructor and SkillsUSA advisor, for his work ethic and skill, Borchardt was also selected to test his abilities at the contest.

The students who compete in SkillsUSA not only need to keep up with regularly assigned work in the Wautoma Welding Program, but also have to put in additional time and effort to perfect welding skills, study welding knowledge, practice interpreting prints, write their resumes, and work on job interview skills.
