Pleasant View Elementary School to close at the end of the school year

The Wild Rose School Board unanimously voted in favor of closing Pleasant View Elementary School during their March 22 meeting.

The Wild Rose Area School District will close the doors of Pleasant View Elementary School at the conclusion of the current school year, with the students currently enrolled transferring to Wild Rose Elementary in the fall. During public comments and a discussion, board members pointed out to those in attendance that they have been considering the possibility of closing the school for some time.

Many of those who attended the meeting addressed the board during public comments and asked questions regarding Pleasant View’s financial status and current enrollment numbers. Of those who had attended the meeting, many parents said they had attended Pleasant View Elementary or had children who are enrolled in the rural school. A few stated the “staff is second to none” and acknowledged that both “elementary schools are really good.”

Overall, the 44 students who attend Pleasant View are doing well academically, but as enrollment has declined over the past few years many of the smaller class sizes have already been moved to Wild Rose Elementary.
