Over 3,890 books donated to Parkside’s Book Celebration

Students choose summer reading materials on March 10

With 3,897 books to choose from, over 160 students in grade 4-8th grade participated in the 7th annual Book Celebration on Friday, March 10 at Parkside Middle School. The students eligible to participate in the celebration were able to choose between 10 to 20 gently used books at their reading level to bring home to enjoy over the summer.

Fellow classmates, teachers, community members and clubs as well as local libraries donated the books students were able to choose from, with this year’s celebration receiving 2,362 books just from Parkside students and staff, 885 books from community members, 469 from the Berlin Public Library and 181 from the Wautoma Public Library.

Book Drive Organizers Alicia Wahlen, Sherri Modesti, Brionne Roberts-Bray and Rebecca Umbreit saw a significant increase in the number of books donated this year compared to previous years, with 3,897 books donated in 2017 compared to the 3,100 books donated in 2016.
