Thompson named Waushara County Outstanding 4-H Leader

Having always had a passion to teach the children of Waushara County, Kathy Thompson is now her 35th year serving as a leader of the Mt. Morris Pioneers 4-H Club. In an effort to recognize her continued commitment to the program, Thompson was awarded Waushara County’s Outstanding 4-H Leader of the Year for 2017.

“This is an honor for me to be chosen to be leader of the year,” Thompson said. “I love 4-H – I enjoyed it with my kids and grandkids and I will continue for a while.”

During a presentation by Mt. Morris 4-H Head Leader Kay Peterson in November, Peterson explained how Thompson has spent over three decades of her life devoted to the club.

Thompson’s 4-H journey has evolved throughout the years, first having been involved in the Leaders’ Association when her children were young by attending meetings and serving on communities and eventually becoming the organizations treasurer, according to Paterson.

After her children graduated from 4-H, Thompson remained a leader having always had the desire to inspire the youth of Waushara County. This passion has continued throughout her time with the club, and now she has seen two of her grandchildren graduate from the program, with the third still an active member.
