Klemann and Lehr speak to Wautoma Kiwanis

Jay Klemann and Nicole Lehr spoke about the Wautoma Area School District’s Backboard and Booster Clubs during the Wautoma Kiwanis Club’s Morning Meeting on Oct. 26 at Culvers. Klemann, a Kiwanis member, spoke about the Backboard Club, a basketball program in place for students enrolled in 3rd grade through high school. This year, the club has 121 boys and girls from 3rd grade to 8th grade signed up for the teams along with high school students who play basketball. The club works hard to keep the cost down to join by holding fundraisers and accepting donations from local businesses and community members. This season, the Backboard Club, which began in 2002 and has officers, a board and bylaws, will be hosting three tournaments and in the summer will hold a golf outing fundraiser. Following Klemann’s presentation, Lehr, Wautoma Booster Club president, spoke to Kiwanis members about the Wautoma School District’s Booster Club. The club is currently raising money for a new LED Scoreboard for the high school gymnasium, with plans to order the scoreboard once funds are raised. The cost of Phase 1 for the largest part of the scoreboard is $13,000 and Phase 2 for side scoreboards will cost between $3,000 to $5,000. The current scoreboard will then be moved to another gym that has no scoreboard. The Booster Club is half way to the Phase 1 amount needed. Anyone interested in donating to the Booster Club in an effort to help them reach their goal, contact Nicole at (920) 573-2739 or Booster Club Treasurer Megan Kubasta at (920) 229-9982.
