State Patrol reports Waupaca traffic fatality
According to the Wisconsin State Patrol North Central Region, on Aug. 16, at about 12:55 a.m., a Waupaca County Sheriffs Department deputy observed a vehicle being operated recklessly in the intersection of Highway 54 and County Road QQ.
The deputy activated his emergency lights attempting to stop the vehicle. The driver failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed. Deputy pursued the vehicle with emergency lights and siren activated.
The driver, Delmer I. Peterson, Jr., 42, fled west on Highway 54, then north on County Road Q. On County Road Q near Weller Lane the driver failed to negotiate a left to right curve, going off the roadway striking a culvert before overturning.
The person was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Waupaca County coroner.
