The cross trusses of the Springwater Covered Bridge were damaged after a single-unit truck driven by Peter A. Dehn, 52, Green Bay, passed through the bridge on June 3. The Town of Springwater hopes to make the repairs to the bridge in about a month.

Single-unit truck damaged Springwater Covered Bridge June 3

A crash report from the Waushara County Sheriff’s Department stated that at 1:16 p.m. on June 3, Peter A. Dehn, 52, Green Bay, was driving a single-unit truck for U.S. Special Delivery, Inc., and traveling northbound on Covered Bridge Road when he approached the single-lane covered bridge.

As Dehn crossed the bridge and the top of the box hit the top of the bridge causing damage to several cross trusses and the north and south face ends of the bridge. After the accident, Dehn left the scene and did not notify law enforcement. He received two citations and there were no injuries reported.

Since the hit and run, the Town of Springwater is currently waiting on the lumber be shipped from Oregon to make the repairs to the bridge, according to Town of Springwater Chairman Everett Eckstein.
