Students propose park project to Redgranite Village Board
Wautoma High School senior class officers Grace Lehr, Dakota Wilcox, and Cody Ralls presented a service renovation project proposal to the Redgranite Village Board at their March 17 regular meeting.
The students proposed to do renovation work at Willow Creek Park, which is at the north end of the village. After hearing the presentation, the board agreed that the project was worthwhile and commended the students for wanting to give back to the community.
The project will take place on Wednesday, April 22 and will include cleaning and repainting some of the playground equipment; repainting basketball, tennis court and baseball diamond lines; purchasing basketball hoops, tennis nets, and permanent baseball bases; and killing weeds on the tennis court and baseball diamond.
According to WHS Senior Class Advisor Wendy Appel, students will purchase equipment using the school’s activity account, which is an accumulation of funds each of the students has raised over the past four years.
The board agreed that the village would provide support for the project by furnishing extra garbage cans, provide trash/debris pick-up, provide supplies, such as paint, and have bathrooms open. In addition, a representative of the village will attend the graduation ceremony to recognize the students service to the community.
