New election machines to be purchased for Wild Rose

Subhead

The Wild Rose Village Board approved the purchase of a new election machine during an August 5 meeting.

Village Clerk, Lindsey Inda, pointed out that the machine currently being used will no longer be maintained in the future, so a new machine is needed. She mentioned two options, one being an all-in-one touch screen machine which could possibly be financed by the county for one or two years. Poll workers would be trained on the use of the machine. That is the machine the Board approved if the county will finance it for two years.

A discussion was held on whether or not to place a referendum on the November ballot regarding the percentage that the village and the property owners pay for garbage and recycling pickup services. The Board went on to approve Resolution 2020-03 to place the referendum for a 50/50 spilt on costs for the service.

Mark Srankowski from Wild Rose Storage spoke to the Board regarding his plans to add additional units to the property in the way of temporary PODS which require a container handler and flatbed to move the PODS as they’re rented. After some discussion the Board approved his ideas with some changes to be made so he’d be in compliance with the ordinance.

Jeanne Testin requested the closing of a portion of Front Street to hold a street dance as Slugger’s has in the past on Friday, Sept. 18, during the Classic Car Show. The request was approved, as a one day picnic license for Slugger’s for the day of the dance.

Mary Kusche had expressed an interest in purchasing a huge planter, with flowers in it to be placed in front of the Village Hall. It would be a planter similar to what was placed in the George and Pearl Dopp Memorial Park on the north end of town. The request is being advanced to the March 2021 Board meeting.

Lindsey Inda had ex-pressed her “shock” over seeing a bill from the building inspector for his services. After a discussion on the subject, the Board approved the paying of the bill.

The Board went on to approve charging $75 for special assessment letters being sent out. The Village hadn’t charged anything in the past, but other municipalities do.

A mid-year budget review was conducted, with Village President Tim Ganzel stating,  “each department has to tighten its belt, and not spend any money towards absolutely unnecessary expenditures.”

In reviewing COVID-19 safety procedures, Tim Ganzel pointed out there are “fairly good safety regulations in place,” so there shouldn’t be any need to close the park again.

Ordinance 2020-01 re-garding the outlining of terrace areas, and ordinance 2020-02 regarding building permits, with changes being made, were approved.

Operators licenses for Angela Thompson and James Sherman were approved.

It was mentioned that two people were needed to serve on the Planning Commission, and then the matter will return on the September agenda.

The next regular Board meeting will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
