Friends of the Quarry member addresses Redgranite Village Board about grants

Subhead

Friends of the Quarry rep-resentative Christine Burnett addressed the Redgranite Village board at their Aug. 18 meeting, explaining that she has been in touch with officials at the Department of the Interior and has received information about grants that may be available for projects at Quarry Park in Redgranite.  She reviewed what information typically goes into a grant application and that a grant application should be submitted at least six months prior to a future project. She added that each grant should be for a specific project within the Quarry beaufication/improvement project.

Burnett and board members discussed the need to first apply for a 501(c)(3) status, costing a one-time $600 fee, but after discussion, the board felt that Friends of the Quarry should apply for this status as the board is a governmental organization and can’t apply for a non-profit status.

In a related quarry discussion, Board President Belinda Passarelli announced that the DNR has no concerns about updating the current footpath bridge between the quarry and the pond on the backside of the quarry.  She also told the board that representatives from EMT, the fire department and police department are going to do a walk-through at the quarry on Aug.19 to look at possible emergency entrances.

Burnett told the board that she has successfully applied for grants in the past and that she would be happy to help the board apply for quarry project grants.

Clerk-Treasurer Christy Groskreutz reported to the board that the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) balance, as of June 30, was $85,253.90.  This amount is available for village residents who may qualify for home rehabilitation.

In other business, the board approved:

•Quotes by Egbert Excavating, Inc. for culvert replacement and repair of damaged asphalt on Pine and Clark Streets, pending whether the quotes are not above the Waushara County Highway Department quotes.

•Repair of two manholes by Hydro-Klean, LLC, for a total cost of approximately $10,000.

•Plow truck repairs by Mechanics and Metal Works for a cost of $1,037.75.

•The 2020-2024 Inter-Municipal Agreement for the Redgranite Area Fire District.

•Tabling payment on MSA Invoice 592010 #9 (street construction) for $9,890.90.

•The resignation of Richard Piechowski as village trustee, due to health concerns.  The board approved the appointment of Joel Kalata to fill the remainder of Piechowski’s term.  The board also approved the appointment of Ellen Caswell, to replace Piechowski on the Redgranite Area Fire District Board of Commissioners

•The village clerk’s office continues to remain closed.  Villagers may contact the clerk/staff by calling or e-mailing.

•Set a special all-committee board meeting for Thursday, Sept. 3 at 5:15 p.m. at the municipal building to discuss and review, step-by-step, “How to Become a Participating Employer Under the Wisconsin Retirement System” and determine if this would work for the village employees.  Other agenda items will also be discussed, including setting up a Resident Clean-Up date at Quarry Park.

The next regular Red-granite Village Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. at the municipal building.
